The statutes of this new public company on hold will set its capital as well as the terms of participation in said capital. Sonamines, placed under the supervision of the Ministry in charge of Mines, was created in a context where mining is problematic in Cameroon. Indeed, according to the Support Framework for Mining Handicrafts (Capam), the Cameroonian public treasury loses about one billion FCFA each month due to the concealment of resources produced by mining companies. In addition, according to the Ministry of Mines, only 40% of Cameroon's mining potential is known to the public authorities.
